The manga “Zukyun x Bakyun” is an action romantic comedy that follows Dan, a former elite mercenary and hitman, and Lyla, a military-trained “one-woman army.” Despite being exceptionally skilled on the battlefield, both are hopelessly inexperienced when it comes to romance. Against a backdrop of gunfire, explosions, and dangerous missions, the two try their best to enjoy an innocent, ordinary relationship.
Since its serialization began on the manga app “GANMA!” in 2023, the series has gained a passionate following. The manga has now concluded, with all five volumes available as e-books and the first volume also released in print.
For the feature film now entering development and production, multi-award-winning writer and director Robby Monroe (“My Sweet Treason”) has been engaged to write the screenplay and direct. A lifelong manga fan who has read “Zukyun x Bakyun” more than 50 times, Monroe brings both a deep knowledge of the source material and his signature visual style to the project.
An English-language edition of the series has also been announced for publication by major U.S. publisher Seven Seas Entertainment.
